QUICK LIST: Packaged Toddler Snacks I Actually Feel Good About
because I'm a psycho about ingredients
I KNOWWWWW!!!! Before becoming a mom, I never thought I would feed my son a single packaged food ever. How hilarious. I have a list of those things I never planned to do or always planned to do and then parenthood washed me clean of absolutes. I will always prefer whole foods over packaged foods when possible. Mav loves fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, steamed broccoli leftover dipped in hummus, homemade muffins, the random toddler charcuterie plate. I can do a whole separate post on easy non-packaged snacks soon, i promise đ
BUT!! We live in the real world. We travel, weâre running out the door, sometimes your toddler wants snacks every 14 minutes for 11 straight hours (just recently dialed back the snack default mode on my son..LORD.) So anyway, yes, I do incorporate packaged foods.
That saidâŚIâm a psycho about ingredients.
If itâs coming from our house, I want it to have some nutritional value. No seed oils. Minimal junk and added sugar. Ideally some protein and fiber. I have to recognize every ingredient. Bonus points if itâs grain-free or made with a grain more easily digested.
So here are our top 7 right now we keep coming back to!
Brooklyn Biltong Naked Air-Dried Beef
This is basically the anti-jerky jerky. The ingredient list is wildly clean: grass-fed beef, apple cider vinegar, and salt. Thatâs literally it. No sugar, no weird preservatives, no mystery flavor dust. And itâs super tender so pretty easy to chew for the little ones.
I love this for protein on the go because most toddler snacks are basically beige carbs pretending to sustain life. Itâs actually nuts. Protein is very important for growth, blood sugar stability, energy, and keeping toddlers full for longer than 9 seconds. Granted they donât need a TON, so no stress on counting grams yaâll.
Mav loves the chewy texture and I love having a shelf-stable (lasts a couple days once open) protein option in my bag that doesnât make me feel like Iâm handing him a Slim Jim from a gas station (remember those!?)
gimme Seaweed Snacks (Avocado Oil or Olive Oil)
Okay these are weirdly toddler addictive in our house. I hear the crunch crunch from down the hall. Not mess free, just FYI. Theyâll have little seaweed specks on their hands, face and shirt lol.
The ingredients are so simple: organic seaweed, avocado oil, sea salt.
I specifically look for the avocado oil or olive oil version because a lot of packaged snacks are loaded with inflammatory seed oils. Seaweed is also naturally rich in iodine and B12, which support thyroid health, energy, and nervous system function.
Also itâs just fun for them to eat!!!
Solely Organic Dried Mango Strips
These are one of my favorite âsweet treat but still real foodâ toddler snacks.
The ingredient list is literally just organic mango. No added sugar, preservatives, oils, or weird coatings pretending to be fruit. Theyâre naturally sweet, chewy, and packed with vitamin C and fiber, which makes them feel a little more substantial than your average fruit snack situation. Make sure your toddler brushes their teeth though at some point, sometimes it can get a little sticky in there!
Mav is obsessed with them, and I love having an easy shelf-stable fruit option in my bag.
Good Health Avocado Oil Veggie Sticks
Not sure of the standard brand of veggie sticks we see at a local grocery store. But what I remember from reading the package is that theres weird stuff in them and the oils they use are gross. And I know, in general, veggie sticks are not replacing actual vegetables đ But as far as crunchy packaged snacks go, these are one of the better options Iâve found.
They use potato and vegetable powders and skip a lot of the artificial junk youâll find in conventional chips. This is for the new Avocado Oil variety of sticks! They have an older version with oils not approved by me, FYI!!
Would I call them a health food? No.
Do I feel fine throwing them in a snack cup at the park? Absolutely.
Sometimes motherhood is just choosing the better convenience option and moving on with your life.
Sunnie Cheddar Crackers
These honestly taste like the nostalgic lunchbox snacks we all grew up eatingâŚexcept the ingredients are dramatically cleaner.
They use cassava flour, avocado oil, and real cheese, while skipping seed oils and artificial flavors.
I love finding grain-free options that donât taste like cardboard punishment snacks. These have enough fat and a little protein to feel more substantial, and toddlers obviously love anything cheese-shaped.
Unbothered Foods Sea Salt & Flax Sourdough Crackers
These are the kind of crackers that make me feel like I have my life together. Say sourdough and Iâm already checking out at the register.
They use a traditional sourdough fermentation process with super simple ingredients like flour, olive oil, flax, and sea salt. There are no weird additives or seed oils hiding in there. The flax adds a little fiber and healthy fats, which I appreciate because most toddler crackers are basically air.
Theyâre super crunchy, salty, and satisfying, and I love pairing them with a hard cheese cheese, cottage cheese, hummus, or avocado to make them a little more balanced. Definitely more of a âreal foodâ cracker situation.
Sunnie Sunflower Butter + Jam Snack Packs
These are genius for school-safe snacks because they use sunflower butter instead of peanuts, but still have that PB&J energy my son loves. Plus the brand was created with guidance from a pediatric nutritionist, which I find pretty legit!
The ingredient philosophy overall is what sold me: no seed oils, minimal processing, no artificial flavors, more balanced macros.
Basically packaged snacks pretending to be junk food while secretly being decent.
Painterland Sisters Yogurt
This one is elite.
Their skyr yogurt is packed with protein (up to 18â21g depending on the variety) and made with organic whole milk and live active cultures.
Iâm always trying to get more protein and healthy fat into toddler meals because honestly most toddler food marketed to kids is just sugar in a pouch.
This yogurt is super creamy, filling, and has probiotics for gut health. Mav loves the Strawberry one, and he loves to top with raspberries and âcrunchiesâ, which lately has been Seven Sundays Cereal.
Anyway. Thatâs my current âI can live with these ingredientsâ toddler snack rotation.
I figure as long as Iâm leaning more into the whole foods like 80% of the time, these packaged foods are juuuuuuuust fine to incorporate. I like to now be realistic so I donât shame myself into oblivion and drive myself crazy. Hope you love that these are convenient and significantly better than a lot of whatâs marketed to kids right now!
xx
